The Story of Kung Fu Con

James grew up in Hong Kong where he watched Bruce Lee performing on television. Bruce demonstrated his famous one-inch punch and this impressed him the most when he was just a child. James was then glued to the screen where he watched Bruce fighting with his Jeet Kun Do. Bruce was always portraying the little guy forced to adapt to strange new environments and trying to survive as a decent man. Yet local thugs and difficult political situations often pushed him to fight against all odds but in the end, he brought justice into his world of family and friends. The courage that Bruce portrayed in his movies inspired James to begin taking lessons in Martial Arts. He later adapted his martial art skills into his acting career when he became a fully fledged actor in New York appearing off-Broadway plays and in Hollywood movies. James got his big break when he portrayed Lightning in Big Trouble in Little China in 1986, which was directed by the genius director, John Carpenter. 

James has been appearing in comic cons since 2002. This has included London and also Indianapolis USA 2016 where he met thousands of his loyal fans. He was often invited to appear in UK podcasts by popular programme such as “Geek Legion of Doom” and also US podcasts such as “Urban Action Showcase” with thousands of viewers. This inspired James, during the COVID pandemic period, to create his own pod cast called “Kung Fu Legends by James Pax”. He then interviewed action Kung Fu actors from Ip Man 3, Ip Man 4, Kung Fu Hustle and the lead actor in Shaolin vs Lama. In 2023 James commenced a US comic con tour featuring cities and states like Boston, New Jersey, Los Angeles, Texas. Then in 2024, James continued his tour to cities like Chicago, San Diego Comic Con and Fresno California. By then, James had already gotten a good sense of what comic cons are all about and developed a clear understanding of what the comic con fans are looking for. He decided that it’s time to launch his own brand called “Kung Fu Con.” 

James feels that most comic cons are often similar in theme; they also invite stars that are very popular and who are well known to the comic con goers. James wants to do things differently by inviting stars that are not often seen on the normal comic con circuit. Since his theme is set on Kung Fu Martial Arts, James is looking to invite the obvious super action stars from this genre but also bring attention to those that are from the Eastern Hemisphere. And these Hong Kong, Chinese and Japanese and Thai actor’s presence will bring a breath of fresh air to the market for loyal action fans to meet and greet their favorite kung Fu stars. Fans will be able to listen to them talk about how they developed their careers from mere Kung Fu practitioners and champions into kung fu super stars, from the golden years of Kung Fu movie productions in the 60’s right through till today. Their stories of struggle to success will enrich and entice the fans. Their stories might further inspire young actors, aspiring directors and writers to enter show business. Just like how James got into the movie industry because of the admiration for Bruce Lee making movies in Hong Kong, also Japanese super star Toshiro Mifune and director Kurozawa making Samurai movies during the golden 50s 60s & 70s.
